Nature’s Remedies for Summer Skin Irritants

Summer skin can be a real pain. During the summer the heat is turned up, the bugs are out and poison ivy and oak are bursting from the earth. From rashes to stings to bites and burns summer fun can turn into summer discomfort. These don’t have to stop you from enjoying your fun in the sun if you are prepared and armed with some of nature’s remedies. These simple solutions can help you survive the summer.

Summer rashes are pesky and can become an itchy nightmare, for sunburned skin stock up on ACV (apple cider vinegar) and witch hazel. Witch hazel is a mild astringent and can be applied directly to irritated skin with a clean cotton ball. ACV takes the heat of sunburn and contains a strong antibacterial agent that helps treat and prevent summer heat breakouts. For poison ivy and oak breakouts, rubbing alcohol will help dry out the rash and prevent its spread. It also takes the sting out of your sunburn. If you like to soak in the tub, draw a nice a warm bath and add either a few tablespoons of baking soda or finely ground oatmeal to help ease the itching. For blistery sunburns rub aloe on the infected area and cover to help the healing process.

Bug bites have you scratching your skin raw? Apply drops of organic peppermint. This will cool the area and help to speed up the healing process. If you don’t have peppermint on hand, don’t worry; just grab the witch hazel you were using for your sunburn.

Dry skin, summer acne and razor bumps can all be treated with coconut oil. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, a potent antioxidant that fights inflammation and the free radicals that cause premature aging not to mention is it one of the best moisturizers. Don’t let these skin irritants ruin your summer. Keep your summer tool box stocked with these common house hold products and enjoy the beautiful weather!
